Lee Umphrey will succeed Michael Aube as CEO for the Eastern Maine Development Corporation on Oct. 1. Umphrey has been CEO of Harrington Family Health Center in Harrington for the last five years. John Baldacci, vice president of Math for America, and community and intergovernmental affairs coordinator for Bangor from 1999 to 2002, where he helped secure funding that led to early revitalization efforts on the city's waterfront.

Seven apply to become Fall River economic development head
[Heald News File Photo] ▲FALL RIVER — The contract is drawn, resumes are received and a committee is being formed as the Fall River Redevelopment Authority prepares to select an economic development director. In May, the organization voted to give O'Connell the ability to negotiate a deal with the administration, giving the board the ability to oversee economic development in the city. There's been no formal economic development work since the former Fall River Office of Economic Development, now the Bristol County Economic Development Consultants fell out of the good graces of Mayor Jasiel Correia II back in March 2017. BCEDC had been doing economic development for the city since the 1970's which ended for good in July 2017 when Correia pulled its CDA funding. CDA Director Michael Dion put together the plan for the authority to take over economic development for the city, which mirrors the job development program conducted by the former FROED.Legislature doubles cost of economic development bill before passing it
according to The Massachusetts Legislature doubled the cost of an economic development bill before passing it early Wednesday morning. The economic development bill is an annual piece of legislation that funds municipal projects, job training, and other economic development programs. The final bill includes authorization to spend $537,845 on various local projects. It includes $250,000 for MassWorks, which gives grants to cities and towns for public infrastructure that promotes economic development. The Senate reintroduced non-compete reform in its version of the economic development bill earlier this month, and it remained in the final bill.SF Mayor Breed names Joaquin Torres to run economic development agency
Torres is also president of the San Francisco Housing Authority Commission, a position he's held for five years. Torres noted that the agency, which has an annual budget of $64 million, is charged with expanding economic opportunities for lower-income San Franciscans and small businesses. "We're living in very, very prosperous times here in San Francisco. At the same time, there are those who are not feeling the benefits of this strong economy," Torres said.
